Reading the chart
- Pitch grid. The hexagons show effective pitches for the given situation color-coded by pitch type at their corresponding plate locations. Each pitch location shows the best pitch type for that location if there's at least one effective pitch that can be thrown there. Overall, this shows how a pitcher can best utilize their arsenal at a glance.
- Pitch types. Each pitch type can be isolated to show just its effective locations by clicking on its corresponding button immediately below the pitch grid.
- Pitch performance. The size of the hexagon represents how much run value the pitcher can save or lose by throwing the indicated pitch type to that location. Larger hexagons are better for the pitcher.
- Outcome predictions. The bar charts at the bottom of the card show a breakdown of some of the underlying factors that affect pitch run values. Each pitch type is represented by the absolute best version that the pitcher can throw and shown in its corresponding color.
Notes
- All grids are displayed from behind home plate. A right-handed batter would be standing to the left of the zone, and a left-handed batter would be standing to the right of the zone.
- Strike profile shows no swing, swing and miss, and foul ball (for less than two strikes) probabilities from bottom to top.
- Hard hit and soft hit profiles show ground ball, line drive, and fly ball probabilities from bottom to top.
